Future Simple
Il Future Simple (o Simple Future) è uno dei 4 modi di costruire il futuro in inglese: si costruisce con gli ausiliari “will” e “shall“.

“Shall” sarebbe usato solo per:
- la prima persona singolare (“I shall”);
- e per la prima persona plurale (we shall)…
Ma in realtà è opzionale, un po’ arcaico e decisamente non comune: oggi si usa will anche per la prima persona plurale e singolare (vedi anche Shall e Should per approfondire l’utilizzo di “Shall“).
Forma affermativa del Simple Future
La forma affermativa del Simple Future si forma così:
Soggetto + will / shall (forma contratta ‘ll) + forma base del verbo

Soggetto + will not (forma contratta won’t) / shall not (forma contratta shan’t) + forma base del verbo

La forma interrogativa del Simple Future si forma così:
Will / Shall + soggetto + forma base del verbo + ?

Nota come non abbiamo nessuna contrazione per la forma interrogativa.

La forma interrogativo-negativa del Simple Future si formerebbe con…
Will / Shall + soggetto + not + forma base del verbo + ?
Oppure in forma contratta:
Won’t / Shan’t + soggetto + forma base del verbo + ?
Ma è talmente poco frequente che preferiamo davvero non mostrartela neanche.
Potresti tuttavia incontrarla in una question tag, ad esempio:

Nota come in queste frasi qua sopra “will” non esprima un futuro, quanto piuttosto una volontà.
Quando si usa il Simple Future
Il Future Simple viene usato per:
- Fare previsioni, supposizioni sul futuro.

I computer non sostituiranno mai gli insegnanti.
- Dopo i verbi indicanti opinione, pensiero, supposizione, certezza, dubbio, speranza, to be sure, to suppose, to think, to hope… nelle frasi dubitative ed interrogative indirette:
I hope you’ll have a good time in Japan.Ben from UKBrian from USA
Spero che tu ti diverta in Giappone.
- Per esprimere un’azione non predeterminata ma che si sta per compiere immediatamente:
I’ll go to bed now.Alice from UKFaith from USA
Adesso me ne andrò a letto.
- Per fare i nostri ordini quando siamo al bar o al ristorante, etc.
I will have a black coffee.Alice from UKDavid from USA
Prendo un caffè liscio.

Prendo/erò un bicchiere di vino.

- Per esprimere azioni future indipendenti dalla volontà del soggetto.

Approfondimento e ripasso
Secondo alcuni non è corretto identificare il futuro con “will” con “il futuro in inglese”. Qualche volta infatti quando si parla del futuro non si può usare “will” e qualche volta quando usiamo “will” non stiamo parlando del futuro.
Possiamo usare “will” per parlare di eventi futuri che crediamo essere certi.
